Dr. Scott L. Hansen is a plastic surgeon who specializes in reconstructive microsurgery – precise procedures that require an operating microscope and miniature instruments to repair an area of the body. He is UCSF's chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is also chief of hand and microvascular surgery at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and UCSF Medical Center.

Hansen is a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he studied wound healing and peripheral nerve regeneration. At UCSF, he completed a combined residency in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship. He also completed a hand and microvascular surgery fellowship at Harbor – UCLA Medical Center.

Hansen is the hand and microsurgery editor for Annals of Plastic Surgery and ePlasty, an online plastic surgery journal. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
