UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals' Pediatric Medical Genetics Program provides inpatient and outpatient consultations, counseling and care to children with rare, complex genetic disorders. Since genetic disorders often affect more than one member of a family, our care extends to the entire family.
Genetic disorders can be complicated and treatment may call for the expertise of multiple specialists, so our genetics experts work closely with physicians in other fields such as cancer medicine, neurology and cardiology to provide your child with the highest level of comprehensive care.
In addition to caring for patients, we are also actively involved in research aimed at better understanding of genetic disease and development of new therapies. We collaborate with the UCSF Institute for Human Genetics on projects involving molecular and cellular biological studies of genetic disease, gene discovery, genetic epidemiology and clinical research.
