Sports Concussion Program
Our Pediatric Sports Concussion Program is the region's premier center for evaluating and treating children and teens with sports-related concussions. A brain injury from a blow to the head, neck or body, a sports concussion can cause a variety of symptoms, including confusion, difficulty with concentration or memory, insomnia or excessive sleepiness, dizziness or balance issues, headache and nausea.
These injuries require immediate medical attention, sometimes from more than one specialist. Our team includes experts in sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neuropsychology, neuroradiology, neurology and neurosurgery. With our combined training and experience, we're able to evaluate, diagnose and manage virtually any sports concussion and help young athletes return safely to school and sports.
Our specialists also work with schools throughout the Bay Area to treat and raise awareness of brain injuries. When schools participate in the UCSF PlaySafe program, their athletes receive a comprehensive evaluation by a sports medicine doctor trained in concussion management, a detailed return-to-play program and consultation with a certified athletic trainer.
