Social worker
Courtney Tong is a clinical social worker in the Fetal Treatment Center who counsels families facing complex pregnancies or who have babies requiring intensive care after birth. She facilitates meetings between parents and neonatologists to discuss their newborns' care. She also conducts private tours of the UCSF Birth Center and Intensive Care Nursery (ICN). She continues to follow up with many patients after their discharge from the ICN.
A San Francisco native, Tong earned a master's degree in social work at the University of Washington with an emphasis on health and mental health. Prior to joining UCSF, she worked in the UW Medicine Regional Burn Center at Harborview, where she served as lead pediatric social worker. At UCSF, she has worked with spina bifida and neuro-oncology patients, along with providing on-call coverage to the children's hospital.
