Elise Harb

OD PhD

Pediatric optometrist
Director, Myopia Control Clinic
Must have been a chef in a former life

Dr. Elise Harb is a pediatric optometrist who cares for children of all ages. She assesses their visual development and ensures they have the vision needed to learn in school. She is particularly interested in understanding how the environment plays a role in a child's developing the need for glasses.

Harb's research investigates how a child's habits – including near work (activities such as reading), use of electronic devices and outdoor play – influence the development of myopia (nearsightedness). She makes use of wearable technologies to capture accurate information on children's normal daily activities and how they affect vision.

Harb earned her doctor of optometry degree and master's degree in vision science at the New England College of Optometry, where she then completed a residency in pediatric optometry. She also has a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. She completed her doctorate degree in vision science at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry.

Harb is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

In her free time, Harb loves to cook. She is a San Francisco native.
