Katie Peters is a pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children with heart conditions. In addition to caring for patients in the clinic, she supervises exercise testing for children and young adults with known or suspected heart disease. She leads the Congenital Heart Disease Young Adult Transition Program, which prepares young people with heart conditions to move from pediatric care to adult medical care.
Peters' other professional interests include sexual and reproductive health care, particularly for young people with chronic conditions. She has advanced training in palliative care, and is committed to improving the health care experience for patients who have been traditionally underserved, such as those struggling with substance use and mental health issues.
Peters earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and her master's degree in advanced practice pediatric nursing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She has held a wide variety of nursing jobs in hospital and home settings. Prior to joining UCSF, she worked as a nurse practitioner in the newborn nursery at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and at nonprofit family planning clinics.
Peters is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and California Nurses Association.
