Lisa Keung

RD MS

Dietitian
Amateur chef, mother to a toddler who's growing way too fast

Lisa Keung is a dietitian who cares for children with kidney disease. She works with patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment, and during and after transplant. She provides dietary recommendations with the goal of keeping her young patients healthy and reducing symptoms and complications of chronic kidney disease, while still promoting their growth.

Keung is interested in the gut microbiome (the natural population of microbes in human intestines). She focuses particularly on how improving gut health may lessen digestive issues and symptoms of uremia (high blood levels of waste products that the kidneys normally filter out). She also looks at using creative approaches – including cooking lessons, shopping lists and engaging individuals – to improve dietary choices to maintain bone health.

Keung earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition at Case Western Reserve University. She completed a master's degree in clinical nutrition at the University of Memphis. She is a certified specialist in pediatric nutrition.

Keung is a member of Pediatric Renal Dietitians of North America. She has published a chapter on nutrition in Adolescents With Chronic Kidney Disease and case reviews in Advances in Peritoneal Dialysis.

In her free time, Keung enjoys traveling; her favorite destinations have been Japan and Spain. She has an adorable young daughter who keeps her on her toes, teaching her patience and helping her to be a better person.
