Pronouns: He | Him | His

Andy A. Nguyen is a nurse practitioner who cares for children, adolescents and young adults with rheumatic diseases. In addition to providing care in the clinic and hospital settings, Nguyen oversees patients receiving infusions as part of treatment. He integrates mindfulness practices – including meditation and mindful movement – into his patient care.

After earning a bachelor's degree in nursing at Linfield University School of Nursing, Nguyen earned a master's degree in nursing at UCSF.

Nguyen has practiced meditation for more than 20 years and has presented strategies for incorporating mindfulness techniques into patient care to his fellow providers. While working at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, he developed an early mobility protocol – used to minimize complications from bed rest and improve overall function – for critical care patients.

Nguyen has also been a street dancer for more than 20 years, another experience that informs his patient care. He has led dance workshops for pediatric rheumatology patients. In 2019, he co-directed a Northern California summer camp for youths with arthritis. He is the author of a children's book, The Day I Woke Up Different, about overcoming bullying and achieving self-acceptance.
