Dr. Nasim Sobhani is a perinatologist, an obstetrician who specializes in high-risk pregnancy care. Her expertise encompasses comprehensive management of patients with preexisting conditions that can affect pregnancy and of those with pregnancy-specific conditions. She serves as medical director of the UCSF Endocrine, Diabetes and Pregnancy Program, which oversees the care of pregnant patients with preexisting or gestational diabetes. She also cares for developing fetuses diagnosed in utero with genetic or structural conditions. She sees patients in both the hospital and the clinic.

Because diabetes is the most common medical complication of pregnancy, Sobhani's research centers on optimizing care for pregnant people living with diabetes. To that end, she studies how to diagnose and manage gestational diabetes, how to improve outcomes before and after birth for pregnant patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes, and how to leverage new diabetes technologies in the treatment of pregnant people.

Sobhani earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington, followed by a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at UCSF.
