Dr. Pierre-Alain Cohen is a pediatric radiologist with special interests in ultrasound, including prenatal ultrasound; abdominal imaging; bone imaging; child abuse pediatrics (care in cases of suspected mistreatment); and the practice of medicine in developing nations.

Cohen received his medical degree from the Faculté de Médicine Xavier Bichat at the Université de Paris. He continued his training at three Paris hospitals, with a residency in diagnostic radiology at the Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades, a fellowship in skeletal radiology at Hôpital Lariboisière and a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Hôpital Saint Vincent de Paul. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in radiology at New York – Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and fellowships in radiology at UCSF.

Prior to joining UCSF in 2001, Cohen led MRI services at the American Hospital of Paris. Throughout his career, he has participated in humanitarian work, including projects in Laos, Vietnam, Burma and Kosovo. He is a member of the European Society of Paediatric Radiology, French Society of Radiology, Pacific Coast Pediatric Radiology Association and American Academy of Family Physicians. His honors include being recognized for his service as a mental health care provider and for his contributions to ultrasound development in Laos.
