Prita Mohanty

Dr. Prita Mohanty is a gastroenterologist and liver disease specialist who cares for children with a variety of liver conditions. She has particular interests in autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis, Fontan-associated liver disease (which results from a procedure to treat certain heart defects) and metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease, or MASLD (in which conditions that affect metabolism, such as obesity and diabetes, cause fat to accumulate in the liver). She serves as medical director of the hepatology clinics at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

Mohanty's research has focused on noninvasive measurements of liver disease severity related to cystic fibrosis and MASLD in children with endocrine conditions.

Mohanty earned her medical degree at Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India. She completed a residency in pediatrics at SUNY (State University of New York) Downstate Health Sciences University, followed by a year of chief residency. She completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester and a fellowship in transplant hepatology at Boston Children's Hospital.

Mohanty is an active member of the hepatology committee of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
