Dr. Rajesh Daftary is a specialist in pediatric emergency medicine. In addition to caring for children who need immediate care at UCSF, he serves as medical director of pediatric emergency medicine at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and leads data-driven efforts to standardize care and reduce delays, improve care coordination and collaboration between departments and improve access for patients seeking care from our emergency department.
In research, Daftary examines disparities in health care delivery and strategies to correct them. He previously studied standardizing medical care in disaster response care in resource-limited settings in African hospitals. He looks at mental health care services provided in the hospital and other settings and identifies the needs of community emergency departments when attempting to provide high-quality pediatric care.
Daftary received his medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at Children's National Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Texas Children's Hospital, where he served as chief fellow. He received his master of public health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He served as co-lead physician of the San Francisco Department of Public Health's COVID-19 schools outbreak response team and serves as the pediatric advisor of the San Francisco Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.
