Dr. Robert Wallerstein is a medical geneticist who cares for patients seeking genetic counseling and testing. He specializes in a wide variety of genetic conditions including autism, developmental syndromes, neuromuscular disorders and hearing loss. With more than 30 years of experience in the medical genetics field, he strives to ensure that all patients receive personalized care. He serves as medical director of pediatric genetics and is a co-founder of UCSF's genetics in autism program.
In his research, Wallerstein investigates ways to use genetic testing in patient care. He studies the natural history of genetic conditions and is interested in identifying new genetic syndromes. His credits include more than 80 scientific publications.
Wallerstein earned his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a fellowship in medical genetics at Thomas Jefferson University. He also earned a master's degree in genetic counseling at Sarah Lawrence College.
Wallerstein is a diplomate of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, American Board of Genetic Counseling and American Board of Pediatrics.
