About me

Dr. Timothy Sanders is a neonatologist who cares for medically fragile newborns, with a focus on optimizing neurological development. As clinical director of neonatal transport, he assists in managing the regional network for moving infants safely from local hospitals to UCSF's neonatal intensive care unit.

Prior to becoming a neonatologist, Sanders conducted research as a molecular embryologist. His accomplishments included identifying previously unknown cell communication pathways responsible for how tissues are organized in the developing embryo and brain.

Sanders earned his medical degree at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at UCSF. He has a doctorate in neurobiology from the University of Chicago.

Outside of work, Sanders is a trail runner who does ultramarathons all around Northern California.
