Katie Gibson

FNP MSN

Family nurse practitioner

About me

Katie Gibson is a family nurse practitioner who provides primary care to both adults and children. Committed to taking the time to listen to patients, she practices a collaborative model of care, focused on expanding patients' understanding of their own health and supporting them in their goals to make positive changes.

Gibson has a special interest in providing care for transgender and nonbinary patients. She prescribes gender-affirming hormone therapy and is experienced in supporting patients seeking gender-affirming surgeries. Her experience also includes caring for patients with substance use disorder, and she is licensed to prescribe buprenorphine, a medication that curbs opiate cravings.

Previous to her nursing career, Gibson earned a degree in civil engineering from Tufts University and worked as a structural engineer. She earned her master's degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked on research projects related to health care policy and medical ethics. She believes that using evidenced-based care can limit health care costs without compromising quality.

Before joining UCSF, Gibson worked at Lyon-Martin Health Services and Haight Ashbury Free Clinics.

Gibson enjoys travel and has lived in India and Denmark. She balances her love of cooking and eating with an active lifestyle that includes soccer, skiing, hiking and chasing her toddler.
