Nikki Padilla is a genetic counselor who educates families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns and genetic testing. She specializes in pediatric and biochemical (body enzyme-related) genetics, and is part of the newborn screening program. Her goals are to communicate complex information in ways that nonmedical people can understand and to help them through what is often a challenging time. Knowing that a genetic diagnosis affects different people differently, she strives to provide care centered on the needs and values of individuals. She is fascinated by the ever-changing field of genetics and loves being able to apply current knowledge for the benefit of patients and families.
Padilla earned her master's degree in genetic counseling at the University of California, Irvine.
Outside of work, Padilla focuses on being present in the lives of her friends and family, including her three children. She is a big sports fan at all levels, from her kids' teams to professional leagues. She also enjoys staying physically active, playing the piano and baking.
