Susanna Upton specializes in investigating and addressing speech problems and resonance disorders in patients with cleft palate and other craniofacial problems (conditions involving the head and face). She has been the UCSF Craniofacial Center’s senior speech pathologist since 2003.

Upton received her bachelor of science degree in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and her master's degree in education from North Carolina Central University. She is a member of the American Cleft Palate – Craniofacial Association and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

    The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.
