The hospital-wide Family Advisory Council (FAC) represents family caregivers from across UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, spanning various units, medical conditions and reasons for admission. We value the opinions and suggestions of families, as well as their unique knowledge, skills and experiences with caring for children.
What we do
In both San Francisco and Oakland, the FAC partners with staff, providers and hospital leadership to improve the quality of patient and family care for everyone coming to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. All FAC concerns and recommendations are reported to hospital administration.
Examples of the FAC's activities include:
- Families as Partners. Selected FAC members participate in short-term groups or standing committees to offer family perspectives on hospital care.
- Family Faculty Program. Trained parents use their experiences and knowledge to educate and inform health professionals on a variety of topics related to patient and family care.
- Caring Tree Awards. Giving families a meaningful way to honor and express gratitude to our staff members, these awards celebrate those who have shown an outstanding commitment to family-centered care.
