Audiology Clinic
Hearing is vital to a child's development. UCSF’s pediatric Audiology Clinic offers comprehensive services for children with or at risk of hearing loss and speech and language delays. Our pediatric audiology specialists provide hearing evaluations for children from infancy through adolescence, using state-of-the-art testing tailored to each individual's ability and needs.
We're one of the few local facilities to offer sedated and non-sedated auditory brainstem response evaluations, which determine how well the ear picks up sound and the hearing nerve sends it to the brain, and to evaluate for central auditory processing disorder, which affects the brain's ability to recognize and interpret sounds, especially speech.
For those with hearing disorders, we offer a full-service hearing aid program. Our patients have access to a variety of amplification devices, including digital hearing aids; bone conduction devices, for problems in the middle or outer ear; and CROS (contralateral routing of signals) devices, for single-sided deafness. If we determine a child is a candidate for a cochlear device, we will refer the child to the Cochlear Implant Program.
We also provide rehabilitative services for kids with hearing loss or speech and language delays. Our audiologists work closely with speech-language pathologists and developmental specialists to help every child achieve their fullest potential.
