UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals provide healthy, convenient dining options for our patients, visitors and staff. Below you’ll find information on our hospital room service, cafeterias and more.
Food Services
Room service
At both our Mission Bay and Oakland hospitals, patients can select from a daily menu and have meals delivered to the bedside. Similar to room service in a hotel, patients choose what they want and when they want it.
Room service in San Francisco
At our Mission Bay campus in San Francisco, patients can order meals by phone or via the Oneview media screen in their room. Orders may be placed up to a day in advance.
Room service
(415) 353-1111 (or 3-111 from a hospital phone)
7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
The doctor may restrict your child's menu options based on age and medical conditions. If you select something that doesn't meet these restrictions, our diet clerk will help you choose an alternate meal. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies or intolerances.
If your child's diet includes special modifications, a representative from UCSF Nutrition & Food Services will visit you. If you have concerns related to your child's diet, ask your child's nurse to contact Nutrition & Food Services.
Room service is free for our pediatric patients, new mothers and breastfeeding mothers. Otherwise, parents and visitors may order room service meals for a small fee.
Room service in Oakland
At the Oakland campus, our Dining-on-Call service offers a large child-friendly menu. To order, simply dial the extension below from the bedside phone, and the meal will be delivered within 45 minutes.
Dining-on-Call
Ext. 3663 (FOOD)
You can order anytime, but we suggest the following hours:
Breakfast: 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
You may also pre-order meals a day in advance.
If you forget to order dinner by 6:30 p.m., please check with your child's nurse about getting snacks from the unit kitchen. We'll make sure your child receives a meal.
Please alert the nurse if your child has any food allergies or cultural or religious dietary requirements. Children with diet restrictions may use the room service menu, too. A dietitian or dietetic assistant can answer questions about menu options and help you select something appropriate.
Bringing food to the hospital
Please check with the nurse before bringing in any food or beverages for your child. Some patients are on a restricted diet or need their food and liquid intake monitored.
For your child's health and safety, we have restrictions on how long you can store food items in hospital pantries and refrigerators. All food containers must be clearly labeled with the time and date they were stored as well as your name or your child's name. If you have questions about storing food, check with your child's nurse.
