Most patient rooms at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland are double occupancy. Each room has a sleep chair or window seat to allow for one parent or guardian to stay overnight. Most rooms have a private phone line for making local calls and ordering meals on demand.
Many patients have a roommate. If your child is sharing a room, please be mindful of noise levels when using the TV and phone and when bringing in visitors.
Parents and visitors should not use the bathroom in patient rooms due to the risk of infection. If you need to use the restroom, please ask your child's nurse for directions to the nearest facility.
To support our young patients, we've worked to create an atmosphere where kids are encouraged to continue being kids while in the hospital. To that end, we offer a number of programs, activities and play areas in the hospital. Children who can't leave their rooms may request toys and books to be brought to them. Family members will also find many services and amenities to make their time with us more comfortable. To learn more, visit Family Amenities.
