UCSF's Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program provides comprehensive rehabilitative services for infants, children and adolescents with permanent and temporary disabilities. We also provide prosthetic evaluation and training.
We draw from a robust team of experts including pediatricians, pediatric nurses, social workers, child life specialists, physical and occupational therapists and speech pathologists and therapists to provide your child with the best care. Our team collaborates to develop plans that will maximize each child's abilities, help children meet their own goals – and those of the family – and let them have a childhood that's as comfortable and care-free as possible.
Our rehabilitation services are based on techniques proven to work, and our care is family-centered, meaning that parents and other caregivers are involved in treatment and that every plan takes the family's needs and values into account.
Depending upon your child's needs and impairment, treatment takes place in diverse settings – helping your child be able to function no matter where they are – and utilizes the skills of various rehabilitation professionals. The goal, whenever possible, is to help each child reach full functional independence in self-care, mobility, communication, intellectual abilities and socialization.
